Interfaith Works is proud to welcome its new CEO, Lauren Puryear, whose passion for serving others and strengthening communities aligns closely with the organization's longstanding mission of helping neighbors achieve stability, opportunity, and success.

Throughout her career, Lauren has been drawn to organizations that create meaningful change by meeting people where they are. It was Interfaith Works' commitment to addressing both immediate needs and the root causes of homelessness and housing instability that inspired her to join the organization.

In just a few short months, Lauren has already experienced the heart of Interfaith Works in action. Puryear states, “I am continually reminded of the extraordinary impact Interfaith Works has on our community. Their passion gives me tremendous hope and motivation as we work together to address both the day-to-day needs of our neighbors and the larger challenges affecting our community.” These early experiences have reinforced her belief in the extraordinary impact Interfaith Works has throughout Montgomery County.

Lauren has also had the opportunity to meet many of the volunteers whose generosity helps make our mission possible. During visits to the Essential Needs Center, she saw firsthand how volunteers and donors ensure that neighbors have access to nutritious food, clothing, school supplies, and other essential resources. Their support provides not only practical assistance but also hope and dignity for individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.

One of the qualities that has stood out most to Lauren is Interfaith Works' commitment to personalized care. Whether being served through emergency shelters, supportive housing, vocational services, or community support programs, every individual is treated with compassion and respect. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, staff work alongside each person to understand their unique circumstances and connect them with the resources they need to move forward.

Reflecting on her first months with the organization, Lauren describes Interfaith Works as a place built on community, collaboration, hope, and encouragement. She states, “I am excited to build on the strong foundation that already exists and to work alongside our staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners to expand our impact in the years ahead.”

Together, she believes there is an opportunity to create lasting change and ensure every neighbor has the support they need to thrive.
